In case you didn’t make it to the Javitz Convention Center in April to see Cabbie Voices at the New York International Auto Show, get ready to be happy.

PBS is airing Shravan Vidyarthi’s probing, six-minute documentary on the varied lives of New York City yellow cab drivers (including mine). Check out an interview with Shravan and the whole film here, and then tune in to thirteen on July 5 at 10pm to catch the movie along with one on bike messengers and another on the ladies room in the Staten Island ferry.

    DAVE!!

I have just eaten the best hot dog in history. Are you willing to drive 200 miles for a hot dog!?!?! It’s in Boston, but it’s sooo worth it. If you’ve got a food road trip in you, please please please, as one hot dog love addressing another, try this place.

It’s an 80 year old dude in a gravel lot in roxbury. He poaches half pound Pearl Kountry Klub hot dogs (a local brand) in a special cider with secret seasonings, then he grills them on a mesquite grill with a quick brush of some kind of bbq sauce, which carmelizes nicely on the grill, while the hot dog’s outer parts pick up some nice charring. He then splits the top of the dog and fills it with relish, chili, special sauce, onions, and a homemade mustard. It’s called Speed’s Hot Dogs.

It’s insane. You have to come try it. The bonus is that while you here you can also hit up Regina’s to compare to Totonno’s.

Sounds AMAZING. I actually do go up to Boston every once in a while so I’ll check it out next time. Thanks for the tip.

There’s a guy here who used to be on the corner of Ludlow and Stanton who called himself The Red Chef and he put kim chi in his hot dogs which were delightful. I’m not even sure if he came back this summer, and Speed’s sounds more intense, but next time you come here, see if you can find him.
